airPoint-PRO™ Outdoor Access Point for the rugged Outdoors

airPoint-PRO™ Outdoor features LongRange™ wireless radio that provides enhanced power to deliver high data throughput and long operating range. Housed in NEMA4 weatherproof casing, and using industrial grade components, the airPoint-PRO™ Outdoor is built to perform reliably under all climatic conditions, withstanding temperatures anywhere between -40 C and +65 C (-40 F to 150 F). The airPoint-PRO™ Outdoor has been FCC certified with many antenna configurations normally used by WISPs and outdoor wireless installers. This provides a much-needed flexibility to choose the right antenna with the pattern and gain characteristics conforming to local regulatory limits as well as coverage area requirements.

airPoint-PRO™ Outdoor can be installed anywhere, exterior or interior of the building. The compact unit can be mounted on a pole or wall. With the included powerShot™, a standard PoE injector, the airPoint-PRO™ Outdoor can be powered over the standard Ethernet CAT 5 cable. In addition, the device features a unique method of connecting outdoor Ethernet CAT5 cable. The device has a 1 foot CAT5 cable terminating into a weather-proof RJ 45 female connector. The installer can extend the CAT5 cable to desired length of up to 100 meters (327 feet).

LongRange radio performance

airPointPro™ Outdoor features smartBridges’ proprietary LongRange™ radio design to deliver high data throughput over long operating range. smartBridges' superior design of the radio receiver allows it to listen to the smallest incoming signals. These superior receiver and transmitter characteristics result in the long-range wireless coverage that extends over 34 kilometers (21 miles) in free open space. Better range translates directly into lower wireless infrastructure cost when the need is to cover a large area.

To increase the data range and ensure wireless network connectivity, airPoint Pro™ Outdoor adopts Dynamic Rate Scaling, thus always seeking to connect at 11 Mbps then automatically scaling to 5.5 Mbps, as well as 2 Mbps and 1 Mbps. When the signal strength increases, its speed also increases until it reaches the optimal rate, ensuring the highest level of service and the best continuity for data transmission.

Simple and Fast Installations

airPointPro™ Outdoor has been designed with ease of installation in mind. airPointPro™ Outdoor simplifies subscriber installation with its Power over Ethernet (PoE) operation. This allows the airPointPro™ Outdoor to be located up to 100 meters (327 feet) away from the power point. The PoE injector powerShot™ is included with every device. A unique weatherproof RJ45 connector for the airPointPro™ Outdoor allows quick installation of the Ethernet CAT5 cable through the building walls. 

Wide selection of Certified Antennas

The airPointPro™ Outdoor has been FCC Certified with many different antenna types to choose from. This flexibility allows design of high performance links with ease.  The software ‘dial-a-power’ feature provides flexibility to adjust the gain characteristics and adjust the radiated transmitter output power to conform to local regulatory limits as well as reduce noise interference in large networks.

Remote Monitoring and Configuration Tools

The simpleMonitor™, an advanced SNMP Management tool designed specifically to simplify wireless network management complexities. It helps manage the wireless-centric network device parameters such as, channel selection, network association, data rate, traffic statistics, site survey etc. Its graphical user interface is extremely intuitive for navigating, examining, and managing the airPointPro™ Outdoor.  In addition, an advanced network management system simpleNMS™ provides seamless integration for convenient remote management of the airPointPro™ Outdoor devices in far away locations. The remote management capability of the airPointPro™ Outdoor is crucial for cost effective management of the wide area network from the Network operating center.

High Security operation

airPointPro™ Outdoor is equipped with a choice of security levels to protect the data. It comes with standard Wi-Fi prescribed Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) security using 40-bit Key. Additionally airPointPro™ Outdoor also offers enhanced 64-bit or 128-bit key encryption for superior data protection. Another key security features built into airPointPro™ Outdoor includes MAC level security that restricts the access to pre-registered wireless clients base on their MAC ID.

Feature Rich Operational Modes

The airPointPro™ Outdoor apart from being a standards based 802.11b Access point, which ensures connectivity with any 802.11b standard Client devices, operates in many operating modes. These modes of operation allow the airPointPro™ Outdoor to be deployed in various environment and situations.  The various modes supported by airPointPro™ Outdoor are:

  • PtP and PtM modes,
  • Repeater mode,
  • Client Bridge mode

Point-to-Point Mode

The airPointPro™ Outdoor in the point-to-Point mode is used to connect two LAN networks as in corporate Building to building setups or can be used as backhauls connecting distance PoPs to the central Network operating centers.

Point-to-Multi Point Mode

In the Point-to-Multi Point Mode the network is placed as a star network. The access point is at the center of the star network and multiple clients connect to the access point. This network is most commonly deployed in hotspots and by WISPs.

Repeater mode

The repeater mode of airPointPro™ Outdoor allows operators to reach those hard to reach areas. The airPointPro™ Outdoor now supports this special mode that enables the deployment of Wireless networks over large areas a reality. On one side the airPointPro™ Outdoor will associate with a distant Access Point. On the other side the same airPointPro™ Outdoor functions as a normal Access Point. This operational mode requires all the devices to support the optional “Address 4 field” of the IEEE specifications. All smartBridges devices support this.  Please refer to FAQ on the use of Repeater mode.

Client Bridge mode

The airPoint-PRO Outdoor in client Bridge mode operates as Ethernet client, and you can associate it with any smartBridges access point on the LAN. airPoint-PRO Outdoor in Client-Bridge Mode will associate only with those access points which support "Address 4" field in IEEE 802.11b Specifications. This Ethernet client supports the multiple PCs and also supporting PPPOE.  Also a special Roaming option is provided, which allows the airPoint-PRO Outdoor in client bridge mode to associate with the access points sharing the same ESSID and can switch in between them automatically.
